Competitive Advantages of Nations in a Warming Climate

Climatic change and its adverse effects are now out of the gamut of the environmentalists and their passionate discussions. Global warming is one of the potent threats which could prove to have a powerful and pervasive impact on the global economic scene.

However, contrary to the common perception, global warming would not be impacting all parts of the earth the same way. There would be some nations standing on thin ice: the peril of being wiped out of the global map like Maldives; while some nations which stand to benefit due to ease of the exploration & mining.
This poses a difficult situation for the adversely affected countries. It calls for a comparative analysis and vulnerability of various nations in the changing climate.

Though there has been various regulatory bodies and mechanism around the world to curb pollution, they have not factored in the comparative advantage few countries stand to gain owing to global warming. There is need of a framework which would identify various factors on which the competitive advantage of the country would depend.

The panel proposes such a framework along with an environmental index which factor in various elements with weights assigned to them. This index will help us compare the top emerging and developed market countries. Consequently strategies would be recommended for countries with respect to climate change which would improve their competitiveness in a warming planet.
